Hello, and welcome to Muscle & Mat. My name’s Rob. I’m the one on the right in the above pic. I’ve been teaching fitness to group classes and private clients since 2005. I had some dance training from the age of 18-22, and aside from a couple years of baseball as a kid, had a pretty inactive life growing up. I couldn’t even skate, which, in a small Alberta town, rendered me quite peculiar. After volunteering with the Animal Voices radio show in 2003, I became more interested in nutrition and fitness, and joined the Y. I took some group classes as they were the only cardio that interested me. One day the instructor had an injury and was limping to class. “You should teach it,” she said to me. “Yeah right, I wouldn’t be able to do that,” I replied. “No, you should really consider becoming a teacher.” So I did.
My partner, Bryan, is on the left. He wasn’t active either growing up. But his story is different. He grew up an obese child and in his teens, he managed to lose 100 pounds and keep it off through yoga and fitness. If you ever want to learn how to lose weight, talk to him. If you want to know anything about anything, really, ask him. He’s an old soul. I think that’s what makes him such a good yoga student and teacher; his wisdom comes from the process of learning as opposed to the act of knowing.
